About the role

Abcam is a leading supplier of research tools to life scientists, with a global reputation for high performance products. To continue scaling our operational capabilities, we are searching for a Project Manager with experience in Automated Storage Retrieval Systems (ASRS), Goods to Person (GTP) solutions, and a background in Lean Manufacturing. This is an incredible opportunity to support our expansion strategy in key areas, implement new flexible manufacturing processes, and automated storage retrieval systems from the ground floor.

You will be tasked with initiating, planning, executing, and monitoring key company projects as a member US logistics & operation team. Majority of the projects will be cross-functional across multiple departments and you’ll be collaborating with Abcam teams around the globe. This role will report into the Head of Logistics, based at our US Headquarters in Massachusetts.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the project management of large-scale programs, developing integration roadmap, organizing meetings and workshops with work stream owners/business leads.
  • Establishes a detailed and robust project plan with for key stakeholders, providing regular updates on milestones, progress, and timelines.
  • Create resourcing model to determine capacity and labor with a strong understanding of supply and demand requirements. Implementation of KPI and insight reports to determine the impact on operational throughput and productivity.
  • Lead the integration of Oracle ERP and Scale WMS with new Automated Storage/Retrieval Systems (ASRS), Goods to Person (GTP) solutions, Pick-To-Light, and conveyor/sortation systems.
  • Develop and monitor the project budget, ensuring all capital and operational expenditures are clearly captured and tracked. Provide frequent updates and cost summaries to the Finance team outlining if program is staying within the budget and flagging any unexpected spend.
  • Coordinates any communications and meetings between Procurement and Legal with external venders, ensuring purchase orders are created, contracts and service agreements meet Abcam requirements, and all activities are compliant with company security policies.
  • Identifies and monitors project risks and issues. Develops mitigating actions and escalates as appropriate, showing ownership and determination to overcome blockers to progress. Has knowledge and capability to understand and mitigate against risks that affect multi-department projects.
  • Supports robust governance and decision making, that is appropriate for all levels up to and including board level. Provides reporting for a similar range of stakeholders and engages in mechanisms that hold self and others to account for delivery.
  • Ensures project assurance, quality assurance and appropriate change management processes are in place with routine updates/checks.
  • May have ultimate responsibility for junior PM team projects being effectively met and lead the development of junior PMs within the team through mentoring and coaching.
  • Identifies and manages stakeholder relationships and need for senior level support. Manages internal and external relationships as appropriate. Able to confidently work with senior and executive stakeholders across different departments with differing priorities, and can consider these differences, resolving any conflict to a satisfactory conclusion, without causing project delay.
  • Has an in-depth understanding of financial principles relating to project delivery. Recommends allocation of resources within project and creates strategies to maximize revenue generation. Monitors financial inputs and some outputs.
  • Identify and establish a working program team that enables the program to move forwards. Chair regular team meetings and provide minutes to key stakeholders. Influence project members to ensure timely delivery of the project deliverables.

About you

  • 4+ years of experience as a Project Manager in Manufacturing and/or Logistics Operations.
  • University Degree or College Diploma
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) desired
  • Experience on at least one Business Transformation initiative in integrating Automation Technology with an ERP system.
  • Has experience working with Scale Manhattan or an equivalent large scale WMS and/or LIMS system.
  • Must have experience working with at least 2 of the following systems:
    • Conveyors and Sortation Systems
    • Automated Storage Retrieval Systems
    • Pick-to-Light and RF Picking
    • Goods-to-Person solutions
    • Order Consolidation using Put/Pick Walls
    • WES software and controls
