The Daily Free Meals Program Manager is responsible for the daily management and administration of GLIDE’s Daily Free Meals Program. This person works with and supports the Director of Daily Free Meals Program to ensure the Program’s efficient functioning in line with GLIDE’s mission and values.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties can be assigned, and the duties and responsibilities of the job are subject to change without notice.

  • Collaborates with the Director on the daily operations of the Free Meals Program. Inspect food preparation and serving/kitchen areas to ensure observance of safe, sanitary food-handling practices. Ensure food portions are presentable and of the correct amount.
  • Collaborates with the Director in planning menus by providing, labor scheduling, food cost data, excess inventory and incoming donations.
  • Creates menu design with consultation of Nutritionist to include cost, product availability, seasonality, clients’ preferences, and nutritional needs and standards.
  • Completes and/or reviews nutrition screening of clients in the Senior Nutrition and Adults with Disabilities Programs.
  • Collects and enters data into Getcare.
  • Coordinates, plans and /or corrects menus for Daily Free Meals Program in collaboration with Program Registered Dietitian.
  • Supervises Meals Navigators to connect Free Meals Clients to resources within and beyond the organization and to create socialization opportunities for the community.
  • Planning and executing “Special Events” to include Fund raising events, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and other GLIDE Holidays.
  • Oversee purchasing and inventory systems to manage costs and increase efficiency.
  • Address loss prevention issues in operational functioning.
  • Conduct data entry into Salesforce to track number of meals, mileage, etc.
  • Respond, investigate, and report/review to incidents/near misses, emergencies/disaster.
  • Conduct/coordinate training in health and safety policies and procedures. Demonstrate and teach cooking techniques and/or proper food-handling techniques.
  • Planning, organizing and running staff meetings to ensure efficient functioning of the Program. Process timesheets and ensure they are accurate, complete and turned in on time. Monitor and report on individuals’ punctuality and performance to the Director.
  • Actively resolve conflict, and staff, volunteer and client issues regarding the Program.


  • Excellent and adaptable leadership, interpersonal, teamwork and supervisory skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintains them over time.
  • Knowledge of California and San Francisco Food Code and California Retail Code Part 7.
  • Able to successfully motivate, develop and direct people as they work.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, balance multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and thrive in a complex, fluid environment with multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrates the ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to learning, communicating and working respectfully with people from across cultures.

  • Certificate/degree in Food Service Management and direct experience, preparation/service, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Supervisory experience required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality service, and food and beverage knowledge.
  • Knowledge of health and sanitation laws.
  • Understanding of proper use and maintenance of major kitchen equipment including stoves, refrigeration, slicer, knives, and dish machine.
  • Experience working in a community-based social service agency with the targeted population (homeless, people with addiction and/or mental health problems) strongly desired.


  • Food safety certificate mandatory.
  • CA Driver’s License and clean driving record.
  • CPR, AED, First Aid, N.E.R.T training strongly desired.
