Full Job Description

Southwest Early Learning Bilingual Preschool (SWEL) is seeking preschool teachers to join our dynamic group of educators! SWEL is a high quality dual language (Spanish & English), bicultural, Reggio Emilia inspired early childhood program that fosters the holistic development of each child within the context of their home culture and language. We aim to provide an anti-biased environment where individual learning is nurtured and encouraged. Our school is a place where children are valued for their curiosity and individual perspective.

Strong candidates will have formal education (or working towards this degree) in the field of Early Childhood Education and 2-3 years of experience working with preschool-age children. The position is full-time and the start date is end of August 2022. As a teaching team, we are committed to; engaged learning, intentional practice, social justice, shared accountability, collaborative relationships, joyful work and sustainable community. Professional development is very important at SWEL Bilingual Preschool. This position is September to June, Monday to Friday, with a possibility of working summers. SWEL is funded through the city of Seattle.

Responsibilities:

Planning and implementing developmentally appropriate programming including the writing of weekly lesson plans based on the children’s interest.

Responsible for implementing the Soy Bilingüe, Creative Curriculum and Play based curriculum (training provided).

Complete weekly documentation.

Review the progress of each child and developing written plans to promote each child’s growth and development.

Maintain a well-organized, safe and attractive classroom environment conducive to the optimal growth & development of children.

Develop a positive relationship with each child and promote the development of self-esteem and self-discipline.

Establish a positive relationship with each child’s family and share information about the child’s day at the program.

Participate in staff meetings, agency activities, and professional development.

Responsible for setting the tone for and maintaining classroom guidance.

Develop an anti-bias culturally relevant curriculum.

Demonstrate verbally and by role modeling a sound knowledge of good teaching practices and of child growth and development.

Tend to the physical care, safety and well-being of all the children in the group.

Participate in staff meeting discussions regarding the program and activities- Pedagogical and Undoing Institutional Racism.

Participate in weekly team meetings’, being prepared with necessary items such documentation and photos.

Provide information to parents regarding their children as well as general child development information.

Participate in SWEL sponsored and/or community events.

Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bilingual in Spanish and English is preferred

AA in Early Childhood Education or related field or willing to enroll in school

Two-Three years’ experience in a pre-school setting and demonstrated capacity in planning classroom activities, observing children’s behaviors, and maintaining educational records.

Ability to relate to families in a holistic fashion that incorporates education, social services, health and nutrition, and family issues.

Experience working with groups and/or families from diverse cultural, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.

Experience using the Teaching Strategies GOLD online assessment tool preferred.

Willingness to comply with the established agency performance standards which may include: productivity/personal responsibility, client/customer service-orientation, embracing a team player, orientation, entrepreneurialism, and maintaining a professional demeanor.
